The Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) enters the 2026 Premier Soccer League season on the back of one of the most successfully delivered domestic competitions in the association’s history.
The 2025 PSL season marked a major step forward in competition management, financial accountability, and club support. Registration fees were fully reinvested into the competition, with a strong focus on easing the financial burden on participating clubs, particularly in the area of travel.
In one example alone, a club incurred about K34,000 in airfare costs for a single away fixture, with the entire K100,000 registration fee utilized directly to support air travel across multiple away matches. This ensured clubs were able to compete consistently, professionally, and without disruption throughout the season.
The competition concluded on a historic high, with prize money deposited directly into the winners’ bank accounts on the same day after the grand final, a milestone never before achieved in Papua New Guinea football.
This achievement reflected PNGFA’s commitment to strong governance, transparency, and professionalism, setting a new benchmark for how elite football competitions are delivered in the country.
With these foundations firmly in place, the 2026 Premier Soccer League is positioned to be bigger, stronger, and more competitive than ever as PNGFA continues its mission to elevate domestic football standards and prepare clubs for regional and international competitions.
PNGFA has confirmed the key requirements and competition framework for the 2026 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season as preparations continue for the upcoming national elite competition.
All interested clubs are advised that the Expression of Interest (EoI) fee is K20,000, which is non-refundable.
For the 2026 season, an Affiliation Fee of K127,000 has been introduced for all clubs intending to participate in the Premier Soccer League. In addition, a player registration fee of K100 per player applies.
The total payment per club is K150,000, which must be paid in full upon submitting the expression of interest form. The deadline for registration and submission of EoI closes on 28 February 2026.
The Premier Soccer League is expected to commence in April 2026, with a maximum of ten (10) teams participating in the competition.
