After getting belted by NCSL with a 9-1 margin last weekend in the Port Moresby Slow Pitch Corporate Competition round 4 match, the NBC team regrouped and pulled off a gutsy 13-12 win over Kwila Corporation on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, at Bisini Softball Diamonds.
With both sides coming from a loss each in round 4, they had a case to prove in round 5, competing tenaciously to get a much-needed win and hit their straps running as the season progresses.
NBC were first to open the scoreboard, scoring the first inning with one run. Kwila responded in the second inning and scored three runs. NBC fought back and equalized the scores at 3-points apiece.
The arm wrestle intensified in the dying quarter of the match. Kwila Corporation scored more runs and increased their lead to 12 points. NBC were unfazed by the lead, scoring nine innings and edging the courageous Kwila outfit with a 13-12 victory.
It was a seesawing affair, which saw both teams fight for possession and territorial play to score the innings and complete their bases. Both sides came to play, showcasing their competitive spirit and pushing the game down to the wire.
NBC team captain, Aileen Asi, said both teams had good fielders, which saw a competitive and neck-and-neck match that ended in an entertaining fashion.
“Today’s performance, I would say it was an equal game. We had good fielders and they had good fielders, too. It was a close game; they were trying so hard this afternoon, just like us. It wasn’t an easy win, but we will take the win,” Asi said.
