The Lareva Dragons breathed fire and erupted with a 20-0 win over the Omein Spartans in Leg 1 of the KCK Rigo Rice Cup Second Edition on Saturday, 6th December 2025, at Bava Park, Port Moresby.
Lareva Dragons lost to Mono Mutrus Brothers in a tightly-contested Hohola derby clash last weekend (29th November) and bounced back into the winner’s circle with a comprehensive victory in round 2.
The Dragons scored a try and slotted a penalty goal in the first 40 minutes of the bruising contest against the Spartans to take an 8-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Lareva lads polished their performance and scored two unanswered tries to put the game beyond doubt with a well-earned victory.
Dragons boasted some of the experienced players, such as the former PNG Hunters’ second-rower John Andy, including Omega Nari, Abraham Sayape, and Philimon John, to name a few.
Coach Kepson Kepon said he was happy they had rebounded from last week’s disappointing loss, but admitted that they needed to be disciplined and make fewer mistakes in their upcoming games.
“We had a very physical game against the Mono Mutrus Brothers in round 1 and lost to them, but I’m pleased that the boys have improved and delivered a strong performance today,” he stated.
“We capitalized on the mistakes of the Spartans and made them pay the price with 3 tries and a converted penalty goal.
“It’s a good test for us to improve on some of the areas that we have been lacking, especially we need to be better in our discipline going forward.”
