Komara, Wawens set to face off in the PSL Decider

ree

The PRK Gulf Komara FC and Agmark FC Morobe Wawens are gearing up to compete for the OTML Premier Soccer League (PSL) crown on Sunday, 14th December 2025, at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

Komara belted the young Hekari United FC team in last weekend’s semifinal double-header fixtures, and Wawens edged the Lae City FC in the penalty shootout, with both teams booking their spots in the big dance.

The PRK-sponsored Komara side made their first grand final appearance against Hekari last year after seven years but fell short in stealing the highly-prized silverware from the reigning champions (Hekari).

Having a score to settle with Hekari from last year’s heartbreak, Komara rose to the challenge this time and punished the Red Army, exacting revenge on the back-to-back PSL title holders and securing their second straight grand final.

Conversely, Wawens will play their first grand final after eight years of participating in the semi-professional competition. The club was established in 2017, one year ahead of Komara’s establishment in 2018.

Gulf Komara's coach, David Aua, expressed satisfaction in leading the team to a second consecutive grand final, noting that the team’s offence has been solid the whole season, but admitted that they needed to polish up defensively.

The Wawens’ coach, Bob Morris, described that reaching the grand final for the first time was a proud and special moment for the club, and they are looking forward to facing the determined Komara men.

With both Gulf Komara and FC Morobe Wawens chasing their maiden PSL title, it will be a high-stakes decider for the two desperate sides as they lock horns and battle for supremacy in the nation’s capital.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, 13th December, the Hekari Football Academy will face Bernice FC in the U18 Women’s National Youth Soccer League Grand Final, followed by the match between Hekari United FC and Lae City Dwellers in the Women’s National Conference Soccer League.

On Sunday's triple-header, the Southern Youths will meet Gulf Komara FC in the U18 Men’s NYSL, followed by Hekari United FC and Lae City fighting for the third spot, and Gulf Komara FC will go head-to-head with FC Morobe Wawens for a shot at championship glory and wrap up all PNGFA-sanctioned competitions for season 2025.
