The PRK Gulf Komara FC vanquished the Hekari United FC with a 3-0 win in the OTML Premier Soccer League Port Moresby local derby Semifinal clash yesterday (7th December 2025) at PNG Football Stadium.
After seven years of participating in the semi-professional competition, Komara made their first grand final appearance last year, but lost to Hekari.
With a completely new lineup following the departures of Hekari’s senior players to the OFC Professional League team, Komara took advantage of that and hammered the inexperienced men in red and exacted their revenge from last year.
The Gulf Komara had a strong regular season and finished third on the ladder. Komara's experience came to the fore in the first half, and they scored two well-executed goals to lead 2-0 at the interval.
Hekari stepped up in the second half, but Komara’s relentless defense kept turning the reigning champions away, and the PRK-sponsored side bagged the third goal to seal the deal and booked their second straight grand final.
An elated Gulf Komara coach, David Aua, was impressed with the dominant performance and praised the players, attributing the win to their impregnable defense.
“The boys played exceptionally well today. Coming off with a strong win in last weekend’s game, we built on that momentum and delivered a strong performance,” Aua said.
“It was a very polished and improved performance, especially defensively. Our defense was in order, and the boys defended well. We need to maintain our defense and be better in the grand final.
“Full credit to the boys. They worked hard the whole year, and they deserve to play in the grand final. We’ve reached the grand final two years in a row, so we want to be better this time.”
Aua revealed that Komara's experienced defender, Philip Steven, had an injury after the MSG PM’s Cup grand final, but he remains hopeful that Steven will be ready for the decider.
In addition, Hekari United FC commended the club's emerging players, who showed courage and rose to the challenge this season, and credited the PRK Gulf Isou for their well-earned victory.
"Our academy-driven Hekari United side bowed out of the OTML Premier Soccer League semifinals this afternoon after a determined run built on belief, grit, and the hunger to compete at the highest level," the statement read.
"Despite losing senior players to PNG Hekari FC for the OFC Pro League campaign, our academy and fringe players rose to the challenge throughout the season by finishing second on the ladder.
"While the result didn’t go our way, our boys left the field with their heads held high, and we are proud of how far they’ve come and the character they’ve shown.
"Congratulations to the PRK Gulf Komara FC, and thank you to our supporters for believing in this young squad."
Meanwhile, the FC Morobe Wawens upset the minor premiers and premiership favorites, Lae City FC, in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at Lae’s 11 Mile Academy yesterday afternoon.
While the PRK Gulf Komara FC will make their second consecutive grand final appearance, the Agmark FC Morobe Wawens will debut in the big dance, with both sides eyeing their maiden title in the PSL competition.
