The OTML Premier Soccer League (PSL) Port Moresby local derby round 6 fixture saw the table-topping Gulf Komara FC pull off a 2-0 victory over the Hekari United FC on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, at PNG Football Stadium.
With three consecutive wins on their back, Hekari aimed to end Komara’s perfect record, but the PRK-sponsored club flexed their muscles by stopping Hekari’s momentum and extending their winning streak.
The first half’s pace was physical and intense. Despite sharing equal ball possession and field position, including a couple of goal-scoring opportunities being created, both sides failed to capitalize, locking the score at nil all.
The arm wrestle continued in the second half as both teams tried to open up the game. In the last 20 minutes of play, Komara took a free penalty kick and scored again to put the game beyond doubt, registering six straight wins on the trot.
Komara have maintained the pole position since the opening round and are aiming to keep their record intact when they host the Lae City FC in Port Moresby in round 7, while Hekari will look to rebound when they take on the United Highlands FC.
Gulf Komara coach David Aua was happy with the hard-fought win, but admitted that they would not get ahead of themselves as this is only the first quarter of the season, with 15 more rounds to go before the finals.
