Kawaso Bulldogs Bulldoze Ambo Roosters to Claim Erave Rugby League Competition

The Kawaso Bulldogs triumphed over the Ambo Roosters with a nail-biting 4-0 finish in the Erave Rugby League (ERL) Men’s A Grade Grand Final, securing the bragging rights on Saturday, 27th September, 2025, at Kamare Oval in Erave Station, Southern Highlands Province.

Defending premiers, Ambo Roosters, failed to retain their title while the rejuvenated Kawaso Bulldogs came on a mission and spoiled the party, ultimately being crowned the new kings of the ERL competition.

A tough and physical first half in bad weather conditions made it difficult for the two sides to find the try line and break the deadlock, leaving the half-time score at nil all.

The tug-of-war contest continued in the second half, but the Doggies managed to score a 4-pointer and defended their lead until the full-time siren.

Kawaso Bulldogs’ coach, Henny Kewa, credited his men for their gallant performance, dedicating the win to their die-hard fans and the club’s major sponsor, Eddie Letenge.

ERL President Daniel Mere congratulated the Bulldogs on their well-deserved victory and commended the Roosters for showing a fighting spirit, with both sides showcasing a physical, skillful, and entertaining grand final.

President Mere also thanked the ERL Director, Emmanuel Eralia, for his outstanding leadership, including the hardworking committee of the competition, the technical officials, and the security personnel.

In addition, director Eralia expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the 2025 season, acknowledging the sponsors, the participating teams, and the entire Erave community for delivering another successful and peaceful season.

“The Erave Rugby League completed its grand finals successfully over the weekend. We are very proud to see that it was peaceful and ended on a high note,” Eralia said.

“I also thank all the sponsors and those who sponsored the grand finals - namely Jason and Joe Tirime, Richard Andia, and David Kelma, amongst others.

“As the ERL founder and director, I thank everyone for their strong support. We hope to come back bigger and better next year.”

Mr. Eralia added that Erave had been neglected in terms of government services for many years, but rugby league has brought unity among the people, helping mothers to generate cash flows and keeping the youths engaged.

Meanwhile, the Waisa Rake Rabbitohs defeated the Ambo Roosters with a 6-4 margin in the Under 20 Division to be crowned the junior premiers.
