Jamie Haro Bags Sports Media of the Year at SP Sports Awards

A rising female sports journalist in Papua New Guinea, Jamie Haro, has won the Sports Media of the Year Award during the 33rd SP Sports Awards hosted at the Crowne Hotel in Port Moresby on Saturday night, June 14th, 2025.

Jamie continues to break barriers and make her presence known in the male-dominated field. She recently won the Sports Journalist of the Year during the 2025 PNG Media Awards held at the Hilton Hotel in Port Moresby.

The Gulf lass was the runner-up in the Sports Media category last year. She took it as a motivation and came back firing on all cylinders in 2025 to claim her first award at the prestigious event.

“It was a challenging journey, but I’m grateful to achieve something in this event. Women have been breaking barriers on and off the pitch, so it’s very encouraging to win this award. As a young journalist, I’m still learning and I want the best for everyone,” she said.

Jamie acknowledged that winning the Sports Media Award would not be possible without the support of her family, colleagues, friends, and media organizations like The National Newspaper, ABC Pacific, and ABC Radio.

She credited her success to everyone for their unwavering support and looks forward to making her mark in the country and abroad.
