The International Training Institute (ITI) announced a sponsorship package worth K18,000 to the Port Moresby Cricket Association (POMCA) today, July 28th, at its headquarters in Badili, Port Moresby.

ITI and POM Cricket Association have a long-standing relationship dating back to 2009, when their partnership was first forged. The late John Vada initiated this partnership with ITI, which has grown from strength to strength over the years.

The educational learning institution (ITI) has been proudly backing the POMCA for over a decade. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, ITI has never wavered in its commitment to supporting POMCA.

The COVID-19 affected businesses globally, but ITI remained steadfast in its support to POMCA, which is the biggest association in the country, with most of the national players being scouted from this competition.

This K18,000 sponsorship will help the POMCA administration to run its various junior development programs to prepare emerging talents for the bigger competitions, including national representation.

While announcing the sponsorship, ITI Chairman and Co-Founder Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval said: “ITI and POMCA have had this partnership since 2009. During hard times and good times, we’ve been sponsoring them (POMCA).

“Since we started the sponsorship with POMCA, we’ve given over K280,000, including the scholarships. We supported them (POMCA) with a larger amount before COVID-19, and now we are building our support again after the pandemic. The support will gradually increase.

“People who are unemployed but have talent, this small support will at least help them. Foundation is always important, so we are supporting POMCA to invest in the raw talent. As we grow, we will be investing more in POMCA.”

Port Moresby Cricket Association President Dean Ani acknowledged ITI for its support, stating: “On behalf of the POMCA, I would like to thank Mr. Sentheyval and the ITI team for their ongoing support since 2009.

“The sponsorship from ITI has helped the Port Moresby Cricket Association a lot over the years. Most of the representative players come from POMCA, so we are thankful to ITI for this continued support.”

POMCA Vice President Hudson Leka also expressed appreciation to ITI for its constant partnership and sponsorship over the years, spanning almost 16 years and still going strong.

Furthermore, as part of ITI’s social responsibility, the learning institution not only supports cricket but extends its sponsorship to various sporting codes like volleyball and tennis, among others.

Meanwhile, the Port Moresby Cricket Association will start its competition in August, with the regular season to run for six months and the finals to be held in December or early January.
