The SP PNG Hunters concluded their preseason training last week and are preparing to play a trial game in Cairns the following weekend. The name of the team and date have not been revealed.
The SP-sponsored franchise had undergone intense and rigorous training sessions for three months, covering phases or blocks one, two, and three.
Assistant coach Wesa Tenza gave an update on the team’s training sessions and their preparations leading up to the trial game.
“We are now in game mode, with a trial match coming up soon. The boys, including us staff, are looking forward to it,” he stated.
“Training has been good. The players are enjoying it. We, the coaches, can see that the boys are moving in the path that we expect. Things are moving in the right direction.”
With many newcomers and a few experienced players from last season, the Hunters are building and fine-tuning their combinations, especially in the spine, to field a strong side for the first preseason trial.
“Most of the boys are new. Hopefully, they go out there and show us what it takes to be a Hunter. We can’t wait to see them play,” Tenza added.
