Hekari Women FC book Semifinal spot

The Hekari Women FC secured their place in the Semi-final after thrashing the Henderson Eels FC with a 9-1 win in the final round-robin game of the OFC Women’s Champions League on Saturday, 4 July 2026, at the National Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Hekari opened their campaign to a 2-2 draw with Vanuatu’s Tafea FC, defeated Fiji’s Ba Women FC 3-1, and smashed the Solomon Islands’ Henderson Eels FC with a commanding 9-1 victory, topping Group A and booking their ticket to the semifinal.

The MRDC-backed team entered the pitch with all guns blazing, with Hortance Kimit opening the floodgates, followed by Phylis Pala, Seruwaia Laulaba, Anna Ellen, and Maria Veronika’s double, giving Hekari a comfortable 6-0 at halftime.

The high-flying Hekari girls continued their attacking raid in the second half, with Calista Maneo picking up the brace (2 goals) and the ever-reliable Nenny Elipas bagging a goal, whilst the Henderson Eels registered a consolation goal.

Hekari Women FC coach Erickson Komeng attributed their dominant win over Henderson Eels FC to the team’s faith and the players’ combination and trust in each other on the field.

“Firstly, we give praise to God. What a wonderful God we serve. Without Him, we would not have enough strength to go on, so we give all the praise to Him,” Komeng said.

“We needed goals today, with the girls coming out firing. We know that we have a talented squad, and if we can play as a team and be clinical like today, I think we are on a good track and look forward to the semifinal.”

The coach commended the girls for an outstanding performance and gave a special mention to the three Fijian import players, who have been instrumental in the club’s impressive run on the regional stage.

Komeng thanked the Hekari Women FC management, the PNG Football Association, and the fans for their support. The team anticipates competing in the semifinal against the Cook Islands’ Puaikura FC on Tuesday, July 7th, at the Solomon Islands National Stadium.
