The Hekari United FC proved too strong against the Kula FC, securing an impressive 4-0 win in round 9 of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) match on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Hekari started their season slowly but are hitting their form as the first half of the regular season nears its conclusion, showing signs of pushing their way back to the top of the table.
The MRDC-sponsored franchise delivered a scintillating performance in the opening 45 minutes of play, registering 4 unanswered goals and leading the contest comfortably at half-time.
Kula FC did well in the second half and stopped Hekari’s onslaught, making sure that the red-hot reigning champions could not score further goals by leaving the first half score unchanged at full-time.
Hekari United FC coach Jerry Allen was pleased with the dominant win, stating: “I would like to say thank you to my boys. Last week we drew, but today we came out strong,” Allen said.
“In the second half, we did not do well because of the red card. We were a little bit disorganized, but hopefully we will sort that out during the week. I’m happy with the result today.”
Despite losing a few of the club’s stalwarts to rival teams and overseas engagement, the back-to-back champions (2023-2024) still remain a team to beat.
After round 9, Hekari are sitting third on the ladder with 16 points, tasting one defeat, recording a draw, and registering seven wins.
The high-flying Hekari United FC will look to extend their winning record when they face the Blue Kumuls United FC in round 10 of the PSL on Saturday, August 16th, at the PNG Football Stadium.
