The Hekari United FC smashed the Avatiu FC of Cook Islands with a commanding 5-0 victory in their day three clash of the OFC Women’s Champions League on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Hekari drew 1-1 against Tafea FC of Vanuatu in the opener and bounced back in style, triumphing over the Henderson Eels FC of Solomon Islands with a 3-0 win and backed it up with another comprehensive victory of 5-0 against Avatiu FC.
It was a one-way traffic contest in the first half. Hekari went on a flying start and scored three unanswered goals in the opening half, taking a handy 3-0 lead over Avatiu.
The MRDC sponsored-outfit took things under control in the second spell and bagged two more goals, putting Avatiu to sleep with a dominant 5-0 win.
With these two strong back-to-back victories, the 2023 OFC Women’s Champions League runners-up (Hekari) are now topping the Pool A table, sitting with four points.
Meanwhile, PNG’s Hekari United FC and Tafea FC of Vanuatu (Pool A) have advanced to the semi-finals, while Auckland United FC of New Zealand and Labasa FC of Fiji (Pool B) have also qualified for the semi-finals.
The 2024 OFC Women’s Champions League finals will be played on Saturday, March 23rd, at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
