POM Strikers supports Grassroots Football Development in Madang

The Port Moresby Strikers FC recently presented a donation of training balls and markers to Godowan FC of Kranget Island, a club competing in the Madang Soccer Association (MSA) competition.

The donation was made following a request from Pastor Davis Assa, who not only ministers the Word of God but also dedicates his time to coaching and mentoring young footballers in Madang, particularly on Kranget Island.

Pastor Davis highlighted the challenges faced by Godowan FC, mentioning the lack of adequate training equipment for its players to enhance their skills and compete effectively in the local competition.  

Recognizing the important role the club plays in the development of young people, the Port Moresby Strikers FC responded through its grassroots and community development initiative.

On behalf of the club, senior players Vagi Koniel and Emmanuel Simongi presented the training balls and markers to Godowan FC, sharing encouraging words and wishing the club good luck.

“We believe that by supporting local clubs with basic resources, we can help create opportunities for the next generation of footballers,” the club said in a statement. 

“While this is a small contribution, we hope these training balls and markers will bring smiles to the children and youth of Kranget Island, motivate them to pursue their dreams, and assist Pastor Davis in his efforts to develop young men and women through football.”

It added: “Port Moresby Strikers FC firmly believes that investing in grassroots football is investing in the future of our communities.

“We hope that among these young players may emerge the next champion footballer to represent Madang Province and Papua New Guinea on the national and international stages.”

Godowan FC has a proud football history, producing talented players over the years, such as Fred Toten and Kubulan Siming, who have represented Madang football with pride and distinction. 

The Southern Strikers, now widely known as the Port Moresby Strikers FC, was established in 2017. Based in the National Capital District, the club competes in the Papua New Guinea Premier Soccer League (PSL).
