The SP PNG Hunters 2026 pre-season trial matches are set to carry special significance, with the club taking elite rugby league beyond Port Moresby and into the heart of the Eastern Highlands Provincial capital, Goroka.
For the first time since their last country round in Enga in July 2019, the Hunters will play a trial match away from their traditional venues, reinforcing the club’s commitment to bringing top-level rugby league to regional Papua New Guinea.
Goroka will host the pre-season clash between the SP PNG Hunters and the Ipswich Jets on 22nd February 2026, giving supporters in the Eastern Highlands and neighboring provinces a rare opportunity to witness Hostplus Cup rugby league live.
This fixture represents a significant moment for Goroka and the Highlands region, acknowledging the area’s strong rugby league culture and its contribution to the national game.
Taking the Hunters outside Port Moresby highlights the club’s vision of being a truly national team, connected to communities across the country.
The trial match will also play a vital role in the Hunters’ preparation for the 2026 season, allowing players to build match fitness, combinations, and momentum while strengthening the bond between the team and its supporters.
The match will be played at the National Sports Institute (NSI), with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 pm. Tickets for the Goroka trial match will be sold at Bintangor Trading.
