The Gereka Bombers kept their premiership chances afloat following a dominant 7.6.48 to 1.3.9 (61-13) victory over the University Tigers in the Port Moresby AFL Senior Men’s Elimination Final on Saturday, 4th October, 2025, at Colts Oval.
The comprehensive triumph puts the flamboyant Bombers in the box seat as they anticipate meeting the high-flying West Eagles in the Major Semifinal showdown this Saturday, 11th October.
Banking on the experiences of a few PNG Mosquitoes - including Jeremiah Ben, Glen Saniong, and Rex Peregua - the Bombers proved decisive in all four quarters, booking their ticket to the penultimate final.
Gereka Bombers coach Mek Loi said: “I’m really happy with the boys’ performance. Every player gave their best, and that helped us to claim the title. It’s a much-needed victory that takes us into the major semi-final against the West Eagles.”
The experienced hands of Ben, Peregua, and Sariong have boosted the team’s spirit, who are prepared to face the West Eagles in a promising blockbuster that could be the road to the 2025 POM AFL decider.
In the other blockbuster, the Gerehu Magpies thumped the West Eagles with a 9.6.60 to 4.4.28 (75-36) scoreline. The Magpies will meet the Lamana Dockers while the Eagles will play against the Bombers in the double-header Preliminary Finals this weekend.
