The Erave Rugby League (ERL) is requesting potential sponsors to support the thriving competition in Erave, Kagua-Erave District, Southern Highlands Province.
Established in 2024, the league has completed two successful seasons under the leadership of Director Emmanuel Eralia, President Elden Mere, and their executive team.
Now running in its third year, the league commenced the pre-season two weeks ago and hopes to kick off the proper season in May.
ERL President Elden Mere said they are preparing to begin the 2026 season, but need support to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
“Erave Rugby League has completed two exciting pre-season matches, and we're looking for sponsors to support us to start the proper season,” he explained.
“We've had a great start, and are eager to keep the momentum going.
“Your support will help us develop the sport, support our players, and create thrilling matches for our community.
“Let's work together to make this season a success and grow rugby league in Erave.”
With two ethnic tribes currently engaged in tribal fighting in Kagua Station, it has affected the movement of the general public. However, Mere remains positive about running the competition.
“Being a leader is not that easy - tribal fights, family problems, and other means of living come later, but the people should be prioritized for a better community,” he said.
“I choose to be their leader, so I must fight for what is good for them.”
The league has addressed many issues at the community level, with the president pleading for support to continue the competition.
“I'm now here at Mt Hagen PNGRFL’s office to complete important matters regarding Erave Rugby League,” Mere said.
“I urge all our Erave elites, leaders, and sponsors to keep our league alive by rallying behind us.
“The league has been a pillar of change in the Erave community.
“If the league is alive, tribal fights and other illicit activities will come to an end.
“So, I need your support. We have games to run.”
The participating teams for this season are Kawaso Bulldogs (reigning premiers), Ambo Roosters, Puki Raiders, Gateway Titans, Waisa Rake, and MKS Broncos, featuring both Senior Men’s and Junior Division.
