Erave Rugby League Receives Sporting Kits From PNGRFL

The Erave Rugby League (ERL) received sporting kits from the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) on Saturday, 21 March 2026, at Kamare Oval in Erave Station, Kagua-Erave District, Southern Highlands Province.

Highlands Regional Games Development Manager James Kundi traveled to Erave Station over the weekend to present the sporting kits to ERL President Elden Mere and his executive team, witnessed by the players and the community.

The sporting kits presented comprised rugby league balls, training cones, whistles, and goal post pads or protectors, including other necessary equipment to develop the field and run the competition professionally.

Mr. Kundi presented the sporting kits and expressed the challenges faced by administrators in administering competitions across the country, thanking the ERL executives, the players, and officials for their resilience.

“We have a lot of work to do. Those who manage the league would understand the challenges involved in running a rugby league competition. It’s not easy,” he said.

“So, I commend the ERL president and his executives for their tireless effort in organizing the clubs and delivering two successful seasons.”

ERL President Elden Mere thanked Mr. Kundi and PNGRFL for their assistance in supporting the league with essential sporting kits.

“On behalf of the league, I welcome and thank Mr. Kundi and PNGRFL for supporting ERL with these sporting kits,” he said.

“We thank the PNGRFL, through the Highlands Regional Games Development Manager, Mr. James Kundi, for your visit and generous donation.

“We appreciate the support from PNGRFL and acknowledge the commitment made to grow rugby league in our region. This donation will help us develop our infrastructure and support our teams.”

President Mere added: “It was a first of its kind that the ERL was chosen first to receive the sporting kits before other leagues.

“We’ve delivered two successful grand finals, with the ERL executives working tirelessly to comply with the PNGRFL compliance.

“We have set a good record in PNGRFL since ERL’s establishment in 2024. Thanks again, James, and PNGRFL for standing behind Erave Rugby League.”

Erave’s young leader, Rodney Alu, acknowledged the support from PNGRFL, appreciating the ERL president and executives for their tireless efforts to develop the league. He also urged the Erave elites and potential sponsors to rally behind the league, saying it's a community-based initiative that needs support, and hopes to market the players to help grow the league.

The Erave Rugby League is still running its pre-season games, with the proper season scheduled to kick off in May. Six teams will compete for the crown this season across A and B Grades. The participating teams for this season are Kawaso Bulldogs (premiers), Ambo Roosters, Puki Raiders, Gateway Titans, Waisa Rake, and MKS Broncos.
