After 18 rounds of fierce battle between the 12 participating clubs in the 2025 Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup season, the stage is now set for the top 6 teams to fight for the coveted trophy, while the other 6 teams bow out of the race.
The PRK Mendi Muruks clinched the minor premiership and topped the standings, followed by the Lae Snax Tigers, Bintangor Goroka Lahanis, Moni Plus NCDC Port Moresby Vipers, Kroton Hela Wigmen, and ENB Agmark Gurias.
Conversely, the Wamp Nga Mt. Hagen Eagles, Asila Waghi Tumbe, PRK Gulf Isou, Gas Resource Central Dabaris, NPL Enga Mioks, and WNBPG Kimbe Cutters miss the playoffs, with the Cutters collecting the loathed wooden spoon.
The Muruks had a consistent season, tasting only one loss and ending up with two draws. The Tigers and Vipers began their respective campaigns well but lost their momentum during the season. The Lahanis started poorly but peaked towards the business end of the season, while the Gurias and Wigmen have been inconsistent but managed to secure their spots in the playoffs.
The finals' atmosphere is different compared to the regular season. The Wigmen and Lahanis are known for stunning teams, while the Muruks, Tigers, and Gurias have the mental fortitude to compete in high-stakes games, and the Vipers are unpredictable.
With the six finalists aiming for premiership glory, the stakes will be higher as the teams lock their heads and contend for supremacy. These playoffs shape up to be physical, intense, brutal, bloody, and entertaining as the players rise to the occasion to stamp their authority.
The Muruks and Tigers will be on bye while the Lahanis will take on the Gurias in the double-header elimination finals, followed by the Vipers and Wigmen clash at the Santos National Football Stadium on Sunday, August 24th.
