The Central Dabaris outplayed the Goroka Lahanis with a 16-8 win in the Women’s Santos Cup Grand Final to claim the title on Sunday, September 14th, 2025, at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Losing to the Lahanis last year shattered the Dabaris, but the home team rose to the challenge and took revenge on the Eastern Highlands girls to keep the trophy in the nation’s capital.
A physical first 40 minutes of the contest saw the Dabaris score a converted try and the Lahanis register an unconverted try, trailing the Dabaris by a slight 6-4 points at the break.
The Central ladies continued with 2 additional tries in the second half, while the Lahanis bagged a consolation try but fell short of causing an upset against the red-hot Dabaris.
Rugby union converts Joanne Lagona and Naomi Kelly were integral to the Dabaris’ premiership success, with the latter scooping the player of the match.
Coach Cathy Neap was pleased with the result, praising her girls for a dominant performance and thanking the sponsors of the club, including the die-hard fans, for a wonderful season.
