The Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) proudly stands in solidarity with the global and national movement for Pinktober 2025 to commemorate the Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout October, CPNG joined voices across the country to promote vital conversations around cancer prevention, early detection, and awareness.
During the Women’s ODI Series between Papua New Guinea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held in October at Amini Park in Port Moresby from October 13th, 15th, 17th, and 19th, CPNG commentators and media teams used the YouTube livestream platform to share key messages on cancer awareness, encouraging all Papua New Guineans to know the signs, support one another, and take action for their health.
The final match on Sunday, 19th October 2025, marked a proud moment for PNG Cricket as the PNG Lewas defeated the UAE by 78 runs, securing a strong finish to the series. The victory stood as a powerful statement of women’s strength, pride, and contribution to the nation, echoing the spirit of Pinktober and the fight against cancer.
In support of the cause, Cricket PNG management and staff wore pink ribbons and decorated their offices and match venues with pink balloons, standing in unity with cancer survivors and all those who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness across the nation, from major centers to rural communities, and settlements throughout Papua New Guinea.
CPNG Chairman Michael Harrison said: “It’s important that we continue to share information and keep the conversation going about cancer prevention. Awareness saves lives, and as a sporting family, we can use our platform to encourage people to get screened, support those affected, and make health and wellbeing a national priority.”
PNG Lewas Captain Brenda Tau also reflected on the team’s pride and connection to the campaign and said: “It is great that our national cricket team uniform is pink, it is the color that stands for strength, courage, and awareness. Wearing it proudly during this month, and winning while doing so, makes a strong statement. We carry that message back to our homes, communities, and villages, and we are proud to share it.”
Cricket PNG stands tall with all cancer survivors, advocates, and families who continue to make cancer awareness loud and visible across PNG. Together, we honor their strength and remind everyone about awareness and early action to save lives.
