ree

Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) and its Patron, Mr. Dadi Toka Junior, have officially welcomed the  PNG Lewas back to the country following their historic win at the Women’s East Asia Pacific (EAP) World  Cup Qualifiers in Fiji.

The homecoming was celebrated with a special reception hosted by the Patron and Cricket PNG on  Sunday, 21st September 2025, to honor the team’s achievement.

CPNG Board Chairman Michael Harrison said the win, achieved just a day before Papua New Guinea’s  50th Independence Anniversary, was a golden victory not only for the Lewas and Cricket PNG, but for the entire country.

“The PNG Lewas have shown the country and the world how great this team and these women are. They have brought pride to Papua New Guinea, proving once again the strength, the representation, and talent of our women,” Harrison said.

He also acknowledged the families behind the players, saying: “We congratulate the families as well for their support. Women in PNG carry the load of being mothers, providers, and leaders. This win is a testament to their strength.”

Chairman Harrison encouraged more girls and young women across PNG to take up sports and join the cricket development pathways.

"We have proven to the East Asia Pacific region how great our team and women are, and we are ready to showcase this again on the global stage,” he added.

“The PNG Lewas have delivered a golden victory for our country, showing Papua New Guinea and the  world the strength, pride of national representation, and talent of our women, and now they are ready to continue this journey on the global stage at the ICC Women’s T20 Global Cup Qualifiers in  Nepal.”

The PNG Lewas will now turn their focus to preparations for the Women’s Global Cup Qualifiers in  Nepal.

Cricket PNG would like to thank and call for continued support of the PNG Lewas' families, fans, and the entire nation behind them.
