Cricket PNG aims at increasing female coaches

Cricket PNG is aiming at increasing more female participation into coaching roles. This has seen Cricket PNG conducted an ICC Level 1 Coach on Saturday at Cricket PNG Haus in Amini Park, Port Moresby.

The facilitators were Level 1 Coach Tutor BSP School Kriket Program Regional Coordinator Henao Samuel, Domestic Cricket Manager Lakani Oala and NCD BSP Program Development Officer and ICC Level 1 Coach Tutor Lucy Ovia.

The coaching course target females aged 16 and above, who wish to become a Cricket Coach. Purposely, to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to deliver fun and engaging sessions for beginners into community club participants.

“This is to increase certified national female coaches and to provide pathway for the grassroots coaches,” said Henao Samuel ICC Level 1 Coach tutor and current BSP SKP Regional Coordinator.

The motives for targeting females, according to Henao Samuel, is to encourage female participation in coaching and to produce local female coaches in club associations as well as encourage them to pursue coaching and become national coaches for Cricket National Teams in the future.

The session saw seven participants, out of which were four females and three male interested counterparts from around Port Moresby and Central Province.

The training consists of two parts – online and offline. The online courses involve about 13 modules with lessons that participants did prior to attending an 8-hour session, including practical as well. The certificates will be awarded after completion of the online modules.

ICC Level 1 Coach Tutor Henao Samuel with the other facilitators from Cricket PNG have shared similar sentiments, saying that they are happy to have seen female participants as it was initially prepared for them.

In the meantime, there will be another coaching session coming up for interested female participants.
