The PRK National Souths Basketball League (NSBL) executives have announced a newly introduced Clash of the Champions tournament, which will be hosted in September 2026.
This new concept will feature the NSBL champions, comprising both men’s and women’s divisions, starting from the tournament’s inception in 2006 to 2026.
NSBL Patron Johnny Yawari, President Silas Nicky, and their executives announced plans to expand the competition and add flavor to the thriving event.
While launching NSBL’s 20th edition on Friday, April 10th, at the Hilton Hotel, patron Yawari mentioned the Clash of the Champions tournament.
“The National Souths Basketball League is one of the biggest grassroots tournaments in the country that is sanctioned by the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea,” Yawari said.
“It plays a pivotal role in producing some of the PNG players that we see today and in the past - they are the products of NSBL.
“This year, we will host the Clash of the Champions in September. The tournament will be held either in Lae or Port Moresby. We will decide the venue and announce it in due course.”
Mr. Yawari acknowledged the Petroleum Resources Kutubu, which has been the platinum sponsor for the NSBL event for nearly a decade, and will continue its support this year.
“I want to thank all the sponsors, especially PRK, who has once again become the naming rights sponsor for the Clash of the Champions,” he said.
“We appreciate PRK for its continued support, and look forward to hosting the Clash of the Champions tournament in September.”
