ree

The CIVPAC Amesii men’s and women’s teams had double celebrations by securing two spots in the Port Moresby Elite Basketball (PEB) decider following their Grand Final qualifier wins over the Tribes Coffee men’s and women’s teams on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, at Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex.

Amesii men’s team claimed the inaugural PEB title last season against the Tribes Coffee, and in the women’s division, Tribes Coffee were crowned the champions after defeating Amesii. The CIVPAC Amesii and Tribes Coffee clubs are the heavyweights of PEB and arch-rivals on the court.

Both clubs have had an incredible 2025 PEB season. Tribes Coffee men’s team tasted one loss while Amesii men’s team suffered two losses in the normal rounds. In the women’s division, both Amesii and Tribes Coffee tasted two losses each.

Following the conclusion of the regular season last weekend, Tribes Coffee men’s team clinched the minor premiership title while Amesii women’s side snatched the minor premiership trophy, with both Amesii and Tribes Coffee clubs likely to meet again in the grand final next weekend.

Tipping off the women’s grand final qualifier, Amesii locked heads with Tribes Coffee to battle for supremacy. Both teams were locked at 15 points apiece in the first quarter, but Amesii proved too strong in the ensuing three quarters, thumping Tribes Coffee with a 77-49 victory.

In the men’s grand final qualifying blockbuster, the match reached another level, with both sides going full throttle at each other. Tribes Coffee led the first quarter, but Amesii overtook Tribes in the second quarter and maintained their lead until the final quarter, edging the men in green with a 77-75 nail-biting finish.

The two grand final qualifying matches between the rival clubs (Amesii and Tribes Coffee) had shaped up to be mouth-watering affairs, with both fixtures living up to their billing, giving the fans what they expected and leaving everyone on the edge of their seats.

Meanwhile, in the earlier elimination playoffs, the WB Transport Kutubu Lakers beat the Pirates (women) with a 56-53 triumph while the Moni Plus Tamaraws defeated the Ultimax (men) with a 91-84 win.

Despite losing to the Amesii teams, the Tribes Coffee men’s and women’s teams have a chance each to redeem themselves, when they meet the Moni Plus Tamaraws (men) and WB Transport Kutubu Lakers (women) in the preliminary final this weekend, with the winners of both games to face the Amesii teams in the big dance next weekend.
