The inaugural CEO of the newly established Papua New Guinea NRL Franchise, Andrew Hill, announced his departure from the PNG Rugby League today (27th August 2025) to become the new Penrith Group CEO.
Mr. Hill was appointed in 2022 by the PNGRFL to head the new PNG NRL Bid. He played a pivotal role in securing a license from the NRL last year (12th December) to join the top-flight competition by 2028.
The outgoing PNG NRL franchise CEO mentioned in a brief press release that he was grateful for the opportunity to lead the PNG NRL Bid for the last three years, expressing his gratitude to everyone who had worked alongside him.
“After nearly three and a half years contributing to the NRL Bid and associated projects in Papua New Guinea, I will be stepping away to pursue a new opportunity,” Hill stated.
“This journey has been an extraordinary and humbling experience. I am sincerely grateful for the support, collaboration, and warmth extended to me by the people of PNG throughout this time.”
He added that it had not been easy for him to make that decision to leave the PNG NRL team, but he felt the timing was right for him, citing family reasons.
“Recently, I was offered an exciting role that allows me to align my skills and experience more closely with opportunities closer to home. After years of travel between Sydney and Port Moresby, I look forward to spending more time with my family,” Hill stated.
Hill further said: “With the successful outcome of the PNG NRL Bid and the establishment of the new Franchise Board as of 30 July, now is an appropriate time to transition leadership.
“The project is well-positioned for the next phase, and I am confident that the foundation laid by the many committed stakeholders will continue to grow into a successful and sustainable NRL Club.”
Mr. Hill extended his deepest appreciation to everyone who has been part of his journey, stating: “It has been an honor to contribute to such a significant and inspiring initiative.”
