PNG’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) mid-week round 13 clash saw the Admiralty Islands FC come from behind to equalize the score at 1-1 with the Gulf Komara FC today (1st October 2025) at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Komara were in superb form and led the competition in the opening round until the conclusion of the first 11 rounds, but failed to maintain their momentum when round 2 resumed last Saturday (27th September) after a three-week break.
In a fiery first-half performance, the Admiralty Islands and Komara displayed fast-paced and skillful football as they competed to open up the game.
After some minutes of arm wrestling, Komara’s experience came to the fore when they netted a solo goal to take a 1-0 lead at the interval.
The Admiralty Islands regrouped at half-time and immediately leveled the margin at 1-all after 2 minutes of play in the second half.
Following the equalizer, the game went into overdrive. With the game hanging in the balance, both sides made a few attempts to seal the deal, but neither team managed to turn those opportunities into points, drawing the match at full-time.
Admiralty Islands FC coach, Francis Moyap, mentioned that the short turnaround had a toll on his men’s performance, but he was happy that they put up a spirited fight in the second stanza to tie the match.
“Coming from behind, we had in mind to go and play, even though most of the players were not fit. We pushed Komara to the edge and drew the game, so I’m happy for my boys,” Moyap said.
“We came back from a long break and had a game in Lae last Saturday, and played again today, which really exhausted the players. Otherwise, it was a fair game for both sides.”
Drawing with the competition leaders (Komara) has boosted the Admiralty Islands' confidence as they look forward to facing the United Highlands FC this Saturday (4th October) at PNGFA Academy in Lae.
Meanwhile, in the second fixture, Milne Bay’s Kula FC belted the Star Mountain FC with a 2-0 scoreline to wrap up the day.
