Southern Confederate crowned Premiers of National Men’s Championship



The 2023 National Men’s Championship has been concluded on Saturday, September 9th, at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby, National Capital District.


The Southern Confederate edged out the New Guinea Islands Confederate with a 16-12 victory to claim the 2023 Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Men’s Championship.


Four teams from the Four Regions of PNG (Southern, Northern, Highlands & Islands) have participated in the One-Day Tournament, battling for supremacy at PNG’s spiritual home of rugby

league.


There were some flashes of individual brilliance and entertaining rugby league spectacle being displayed by the players. Raw talents and prospective superstars have risen to the occasion,

showcasing their rugby league prowess and incredible skills.


Meanwhile, in the Under 20 National Men’s Championship on Friday, the New Guinea Islands Confederate defeated the Southern Confederate with a 6-4 score-line to clinch the title.


The best players from the U-20 category will be scouted to the Elite Junior Development Academy, in preparation for getting an 18th NRL license and subsequent fielding of a PNG team in the NRL competition thereafter.
