POMSA Preseason Underway

Updated: Apr 27

The Port Moresby Soccer Association preseason is currently underway at the Bisini football fields in Port Moresby.

The first round-robin matches took place over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, February 17th-18th, 2024.

Games Coordinator Peter Mathew stated that it was the first week of the preseason competition. He said there were 28 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams participating in four men’s pools and one women’s pool.

Mathew mentioned that there are a total of six rounds, which means they have five more to go before the finals.

“We should finish by March 24th. That’s when our round-robin games will end, and then we will proceed to two weekends of quarter-finals, semi-finals, and grand finals. A total of six weekends,” said Mathew.

Mathew also noted that the majority of clubs from last year’s season are participating in this preseason. Premier teams like the 2023 reigning champions Munkas FC and the runner-ups University FC have also returned for this preseason.

So far, according to Mathew, the preseason is going well, and the clubs have shown interest over the weekend.

“There are no issues, and clubs are happy for the return of the 2024 season,” Mathew said.
