PNGVF announced the Men's Beach Volleyball Train-on Squad

The Papua New Guinea Volleyball Federation (PNGVF) has announced the National Men’s Beach Volleyball Train-on Squad for the upcoming Pacific Games. PNGVF selects both Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams.

PNGVF has selected three (3) men's beach volleyball players through the National Capital District Volleyball Association (NCDVA). The players were chosen from different established, affiliated and sanctioned clubs participating in the NCDVA competition. The three selected players from their respective clubs are as follows:

1. Damien Keith Graham Aisi – Central Club Scorpion Association (NCDVA)

2. Richard Batari – Central Club: Doria Association (Tatana)

3. Tonnie Gima – Central Club Scorpion Association (NCDVA)

The selected players have been training for almost three months at the Sir John Guise beach volleyball facility. Their preparations have been successful so far.

PNG Men's Beach Volleyball head coach Nuga Dick said he was happy with the team’s preparation.

“We have trained really hard for the upcoming Pacific Games. As we know, other teams in the Pacific Islands Region are also preparing for this event. There will be a very big challenge for us against them, so we are training four days a week to prepare ourselves.”

Mr. Dick is a rookie coach. He was recently appointed to the position of president. Even though he is newly appointed coach, he traveled with the PNG Volleyball Team to the previous Pacific Games as one of the officials. This means he is not inexperienced in the role.

“I was the head coach in 2012 during the Pacific Games in Tahiti, so I am not new to the job. I am prepared to lead the two teams (men & women) to represent PNG well at the Pacific Games.”

The three players will train until October. They still have a lot of work to do in terms of their fitness level, combination, skills development and mental capacity.

The 2023 Pacific Games will be held in Solomon Islands later this year (November 19th – December 2nd, 2023).
