The PNG Kickboxing Federation will stage the Last Man Standing Championship on Saturday, 18 April 2026, at Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
More than 10 established kickboxing clubs across the country, featuring approximately 100-plus fighters, will square off in the ring.
Most fighters are amateurs, including a few professionals, making the event more exciting to watch, as the competitors clench their fists and battle out in five categories.
Each division will have 20 fighters, with only one winner being declared in every category to make the final cut.
The winners of each group will be selected to fight at a professional level overseas in the coming months.
PNG Kickboxing Federation President Stanley Nandex said they have plans to develop the fighters from amateurs to professionals.
“This event is the first of its kind to be hosted. It’s a semi-professional level,” Nandex explained.
“We are getting a lot of invitations around the world. There’s a lot of demand in the sport currently.
“Last year, we were developing our fighters to move into the pro level. I realize that there’s a lot to be done to prepare the fighters at the pro level.
“Our homework is to strengthen our local competitions to produce quality fighters and advance them to the pro level.”
President Nandex admitted that there’s much work to be done, but through the “Last Man Standing” event, they would identify the best fighters to represent PNG abroad.
The “Headhunter” thanked the PNG Sports Foundation for providing the venue and acknowledged the sponsors for their support.
Mr. Nandex and his organizers, the fighters, and the fans are looking forward to tomorrow’s blockbusting semi-professional event.
