The Papua New Guinea Kickboxing Federation (PNGKBF) hosted its 2025 National Trial Championship on Saturday, July 26th, at Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
More than 10 clubs across the country attended the event, featuring 125 fighters (110 men & 15 women), who took to the ring to not only showcase their skills but secure a spot in the upcoming international championships.
The National Trial Championship is very important for the PNG Kickboxing Federation, as well as the participating clubs or associations, because it is part of their preparations for the international tournaments.
PNG Kickboxing Federation President Stanley Nandex was impressed with the one-day national trial championship, highlighting the success of it and their preparations for upcoming international events.
“Today’s event has been successful. It’s a National Trial Championship in preparation for our International Championship on September 13th,” Nandex stated
“Around 10 countries have confirmed their participation, so we want to make this event special as part of our 50th anniversary.
“It’s not only a national event ahead of the September tournament but also our preparation towards the World Cup next year.
“Kickboxing has been in the country for 27 years, so it will be good to showcase some of our talent to the world.”
President Nandex admitted that the preparation to host the upcoming international events would not be easy, so he has appealed to the government and business houses for their support.
The 'Headhunter' also acknowledged Ultimax Security Service, which was the major sponsor for the event, including other sponsors. He also thanked the clubs and fighters for their participation, as well as the technical officials and PNG Sports Foundation for providing the venue.
The provinces that attended the event on the weekend were Hela, SHP, WHP, EHP, Enga, Jiwaka, NCD, ENB, Central, Simbu, and ESP. A total of 10 provinces comprising 13 clubs took part in the National Trial Championship, ending the event on a high note.
