The Papua New Guinea Kickboxing Federation (PNGKBF) hosted a historic International Kickboxing Championship under the theme “PNG versus the Rest of the World” on Saturday night, 13th September 2025, at Rita Flynn Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
The international event coincided with PNG’s 50th Independence Anniversary (Golden Jubilee), symbolizing a significant and historic moment for the country. The PNG fighters dominated the ring, winning 6 bouts out of 9.
Twelve bouts were initially scheduled to be staged, comprising 2 female divisions and 10 male divisions, with 9 countries competing for international glory in their respective categories. However, 3 fights were canceled due to the unavailability of the fighters from Australia.
Despite this minor setback, the PNG Kickboxing Federation hosted a highly successful world event for the first time on PNG’s shores, which was broadcast live by Australia’s renowned Fox Sports and PNG’s EMTV.
The passionate kickboxing fans packed the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex to root for the local fighters who were sparring against some of the best fighters in the world. It was an eventful and memorable night for the fans and fighters alike.
Gracing the occasion were Prime Minister James Marape, the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology, and Sports Kinoka Feo, and Oceania Continental Kickboxing President Rastim Attai, among other distinguished guests.
PNG Kickboxing founding President Stanley Nandex thanked the major sponsor of the event Ok Tedi Mining Limited, including the Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited, and other sponsors for their support to stage the international event in the nation’s capital.
Mr. Nandex also acknowledged the presence of the Prime Minister and Minister for Sports, including the Oceania Continental president. He also thanked the fighters for entertaining the audience and extended his appreciation to the fans.
The Headhunter expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the one-day international kickboxing event and looked forward to hosting another bigger and better international bout next year.
