The Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) through its President, John Kapi Natto, has announced the appointment of Warren Moon as PNG Kapuls Head Coach on Friday, February 16th, 2024 at PNGFA Headquarters in Port Moresby.
Moon, who was engaged last year to lead the PNG Kapuls at the 2023 Pacific Games in Solomon Islands, has signed a one-year contract with PNGFA to oversee the men’s national football team this year.
The former Australian football player said he was happy that PNGFA had shown confidence and faith in him to lead the Kapuls.
“Thank you to the President and General Secretary for having me back after a few months since the Pacific Games,” said Warren Moon.
“For me, I am very excited to be a part of PNG football. I said this first when I came here; there’s a lot of talent here. During my short stint in preparation for the Pacific Games, I’m now convinced that there’s all the talent here.
“The key for me now is to make sure with this recommendation, we have our plans to move forward. We now look to act upon it, implement it to see some serious change and grow PNG football to the next level."
Meanwhile, PNGFA President, John Kapi Natto, said that he and his executives were excited to engage Moon’s service for a year and if need be, depending on his performance, his contract could be extended.
“On behalf of our executive committee members, the board and the secretariat office, we are very excited to engage Warren Moon again for a year. We’ve given him a year contract and could be extended,” President Natto said.
“He is here primarily to prepare our men for the world cup qualifier, which comes up in June in Vanuatu. The event in Vanuatu is very important for us. You know that the World Cup comes up every four years.
“Therefore, we need to prepare our men. It’s just fitting that Warren continues on with the engagement of our men’s team. He has got his program lined up, preparing the national team for the upcoming qualifier in Vanuatu."
More so, coach Warren Moon will not only look after the men’s team, but he will also be in charge of the women’s team and the youth program for this year.
