Mona thumped Oro Birdwings to secure Grand Final spot

The Port Moresby Netball Association (POMNA) is gearing towards its 2023 finals. The top 4 teams have competed fiercely over the weekend at the Rita Flynn Outdoor Courts to book themselves a spot in the big dance.

In the Premier 2 Division Semi-Final match, Mona defeated Oro Birdwings with a 30-18 victory and advanced to the Grand Final.

The Monas were leading and dominating the game from the first quarter all the way to the final quarter.

Wing Attack and Team Manager, Lois Pala said she was happy about her team’s win, although they have failed in some areas to put up a well-polished performance.

“We made a lot of errors in the first and second quarters. We were a bit confused about our positions, but we were able to sort ourselves out in the third and fourth quarters and managed to get the win,” Lois Pala said.

She added that even though they have secured a spot in the big dance, there is still a lot of work to be done because the grand final game is different from regular games.

“I am really happy for the girls. They committed themselves to the training and the result has been shown today.

“We did well but we need to improve our game in the grand final. We will not underestimate our opponents. We will play our normal game, but work on the areas that need improvement and prepare ourselves for the finals.”

Mona will have a week’s rest and meet the winner of the third and fourth teams in the decider the following weekend (September 9th).
