The EPG Enga Mioks have defeated the PRK Gulf Isou with an 18-14 victory in the final round of the regular season to claim the 2023 Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup Minor Premiership Trophy at Lae Rugby League Oval.
No team in the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup competition deserves to win the minor premiership title more than the Enga Mioks. They have been consistent all throughout the season. It was a well-deserved minor premiership triumph for Mioks.
The Enga Government-sponsored franchise has put on a compelling case this season, registering 15 wins and a draw. They have had an undefeated run this year and surprised everyone. Against all odds, Mioks have weathered the storm and made their presence felt in the competition.
Last season, Mioks bowed out in the quarterfinal. Over the pre-season, they went to the drawing
board, did a soul-searching, regrouped, and came back firing with all guns blazing and took 2023
semi-professional competition by storm.
Albeit the minor premiership success, the Billy Gau-coached side still has one last job to do and put the icing on the cake – that is to win the big silverware (premiership) and complete their mission this year.
It will be an uphill battle and daunting task for the high-flying Engan lads, given the fact that finals
football atmosphere is totally different from the regular season games, but they are now armed with the experience to stake their claim for premiership glory.
Mioks are on the cusp of making history by bagging both minor premiership and premiership
trophies. The stakes are high but the red-hot green and yellow army are on a mission and
determined to finish their season on a positive note and etch their names into the annals of PNG
rugby league folklore.
The Minor Premiers (Enga Mioks) will go head-to-head with the Lae Snax Tigers in the Major Semi
Final blockbuster showdown at Santos National Football Stadium the following weekend, 20th August. This much-anticipated match should be a thriller to watch. Prepare your popcorn and be ready to get entertained by these two premiership heavyweights.
