Kriebisch claims Finland U15 Title

ree

Papua New Guinea’s top junior squash player, Timonaliz Alarcos-Kriebisch, has claimed the U15 Girls title after competing in the 2025 Finnish Junior Open in Finland recently.

Making waves in the European Squash Federation circuit since last year, Kriebisch had an easy win over Germany’s Emilia Hartmann, defeating her opponent by 3 sets (11-8,12-10,11-1).

Former PNG Squash elite and mum, Merlyn Alarcos, said her daughter’s performance had grown from strength to strength since they moved to live in Europe.

“Timona has done seven tournaments in the last eight months and now will do another four tournaments before the year ends,” mother Merlyn said.

“She will be looking to try bigger tournaments in the next couple of months, including Nordic Open, Oceania Closed Championships, Belgium Open, and possibly the Canadian Open.”

The 2024-25 SP Sports Junior Female Athlete of the Year is a top contender for the women's singles and team as she prepares for more international tournaments, including the targeted 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.

Meanwhile, Kriebisch's younger brother, Ethan, also competed in the same tournament in Finland. Despite a strong tournament, he settled 4th in the U13 Boys category after losing to Finland’s Junior Rene (9-11, 9-11, 12-14).

“We’d like to thank our family and friends for their support and special thanks to Ebbe Sagittarius, Thomas Pilak, and Carlos Emir Espinosa Storani for their extra efforts in contributing to Timona's Squash journey,” Mrs. Alarcos said.

Alarcos also thanked the PNG Squash Racquets Federation and the Port Moresby Racquets Club (POMRC) for their drive and support to ensure Timonaliz continues to pursue her goals.

Young Timonaliz is also seeking sponsorships as she continues to prepare and compete in more tournaments, proudly representing and promoting Papua New Guinea to the world.
