KMHL National Boxing Championships Underway


The Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited National Boxing Championships commenced its first session of 32 bouts at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Center (TAIC) on Monday, December 2nd, 2024, in Port Moresby. 


A total of 11 associations comprising 64 fighters (both men and women) across the country have converged at TAIC to showcase their fighting skills and compete for a spot in the national team in their respective divisions. 


The 11 participating associations are Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association, Eastern Highlands BA, Mekeo Amateur BA, Misima BA, Island Boxing, Namatanai Amateur BA, National Capital District BA, Hiri-Koiari Amateur BA, AROB, Lae and Wewak. 


The veteran and emerging fighters squared off in the ring yesterday during the opening session of the three-day bout, and look forward to the second and final day while setting their sights on the national colors. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be staged today, with finals to be held tomorrow.


PNG Boxing Union President Dr. Gideon Kendino said he was happy with the number of associations attending the event, including their respective fighters, and anticipates ending the three-day KMHL National Boxing Championships on a high note.


Meanwhile, the PNG Sports Foundation, PNG Olympic Committee, Tropical Hub Cafe, Adventure Kokoda, National Finance, and Lamana Hotel are also supporting the national boxing event.
