The Melanesian Spear Head Group Prime Minister’s (MSG PM’s) Cup titleholder, the PNG Men's National Soccer team Kapuls, are set and will be travelling to Caledonia on Thursday, 5th October, to defend their championship won last year in Vanuatu.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off from 8th -15th October 2023 in Nouméa, New Caledonia.
The Kapuls won the championship last year against Vanuatu’s development team 4-1 at the Korman Stadium in Port Vila.
In a press conference held at Sir John Guise Outdoor Stadium on Sunday, 1st October 2023, Sports and Higher Education Minister Hon. Don Polye made the team’s announcement and bid well to the team and its delegation.
In his speech, Hon. Polye wished the team well and also said that this team was also in preparation for the upcoming Pacific Games in November in Honiara, Solomon Islands, and must be held together for the FIFA 2026 World Qualifiers, as it is a good team which is made of experienced and upcoming players.
“On behalf of the Prime Minister James Marape, the Government, and the people of Papua New Guinea, we wish the PNG Kapuls all the very best to defend their title as the MSG Football Kings," said Minister Polye.
The team will be coached by Harrison Kamake and assisted by David Muta. The head of the delegation is John Susuve.
