Jugu remain unbeaten

The Jugu Men’s Premier team of the National Capital District Volleyball Association (NCDVA) have remained undefeated this year after spiking out the Vailoma Men’s Premier team during the first game of round three on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, at the Taurama Indoor & Aquatic Centre.

The Jugus have returned swinging this year after being the runners-up to the Scorpions at the NCDVA competition. In their weekend’s match, Jugu defeated Valimo in a nail-biting game.

Jugu won the first set with 25-17, Valimo served back by winning the second set with 25-23, then Jugu won the next two sets by 25-23 and 25-18 respectively, and washed out Valimo in the final set with 15-8 points.

NCDVA President and Jugu coach, Wally Irau, said Jugu were slippery at first but found their footing and won.

“It was a tough and close match this afternoon, but I’m glad the boys won. The team has been doing well. There were a few hiccups on the first game of round one. We had three losses in the round robin but got back in the second round and have won all the games since then,” coach Irau said.

Meanwhile, as the rounds continue, NCDVA is looking forward to the National Championship that is coming in September as they build their under-21 and under-19 teams.

“We are putting in players in order to build a stronger team as we want the championships to be challenging this year,” said Irau.

Moreover, the President noted that the competition was growing with new clubs coming in and making it a competitive season for NCDVA.
