Rookie sensation, Jeremiah Ben, has produced a man-of-the-match performance, powering the Moni Plus NCDC Port Moresby Vipers to a gripping 18-12 win over PRK Gulf Isou in round 2 of the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup on Saturday, 18 April 2026, at Santos National Football Stadium.
Ben debuted in the opening round of the DEM Cup against the NPL Enga Mioks and immediately made his mark, proving decisive in the Moni Plus NCDC Vipers’ hard-fought victory and backing up another impressive performance against the PRK Gulf Isou in round 2.
The rookie was in his element on the weekend, though he made an error, which led to Isou's first 4-pointer. However, he redeemed himself with a standout performance, assisting a try, amassing over 100 meters, and slotting a penalty goal to seal the deal.
Despite playing only 2 games for the Vipers, Ben has built good combinations alongside the spine and linked up well with his teammates. The senior players heap praise on the talented outside back and show confidence in his ability to stamp his authority in the semi-professional competition this season.
The Vipers scouted the talented player during the 2025-2026 NCD Governor’s Cup grand final following a man-of-the-match performance. He quickly established himself as one of the exciting talents to watch in the 2026 DEM Cup, growing in confidence and showing a glimpse of a superstar with only 2 games under his belt.
Though he has been in the spotlight, Ben doesn’t pay much attention to it and continues to work on his skills to become a better, improved player in every round. He will play a key role again when the Vipers square off with the Central Dabaris in round 3 of the DEM Cup on Sunday, April 26th, at Santos National Football Stadium.
