Jeremiah Ben weaved his magic and steered the South City Rams to claim the 2025-2026 NCD Governor’s Cup after smashing the 54 Bears with a comprehensive 36-6 victory on Saturday, 10th January 2026, at Konedobu’s Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.
The electric and elusive fullback was a threat around the pitch, asking the 54 Bears questions and causing havoc in the middle-third with his dangerous ball carries.
After 10 minutes of the high-intensity contest, Ben put the Rams on the front, scoring the first try under the uprights and leaving the fans in frenzy.
Following Ben’s opening 4-pointer, the floodgates opened up as the Rams ran riot and brought the disjointed 54 Bears under submission, scoring 3 unanswered tries and leading 16-0 at the interval.
In the second half, Ben set the stage alive with his blistering pace and registered his second try, putting the South side men on the attacking roll.
The 54 Bears hit back moments later, but the Rams returned the favor and dominated the match, with Ben bagging his third try and putting the nail in the coffin.
Young Ben had an outstanding performance and played an integral role in the Rams’ championship success. He scored 3 tries, assisted a few, made line breaks, and ran over 100 meters, snatching the Player of the Tournament (MVP).
To put the icing on the cake, the Moni Plus NCDC Port Moresby Vipers scouted him after the 80-minute battle. The star fullback imposed his presence, stealing the limelight with a stellar performance.
Ben stated that he was humbled and honored to play an important role in helping the South City Rams lift the NCD Governor’s Cup and also win the MVP award.
“I can’t express the feeling right now. As much as I would like to get credit for everything, it was through team effort, so I commend my teammates. I am overwhelmed to win the Governor’s Cup and MVP award,” he said.
He praised the coach, Steven Moihoi Jack, for his guidance and thanked the team’s patron, Angobe Urubi, for his leadership. He also thanked his family, friends, and the fans for their support, dedicating the win to the Konedobu community.
The hat-trick hero further acknowledged the Moresby South MP, Honorable Justin Tkatchenko, for his steadfast support since day one, whose backing motivated the Rams to claim the NCD Governor’s Cup.
He further expressed his appreciation to the NCD Governor, Honorable Powes Parkop, and Tournament Director Billy Aki, as well as the sponsors and organizing committee, for delivering a successful competition.
Jeremiah Ben’s focus now shifts to making the final cut in the Port Moresby Vipers’ 30-man squad, and he hopes to make his debut in the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup this season.
