Isou suffer heavy defeat

The PRK Gulf Isou suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the ENB Agmark Gurias, losing 38-0 in their round 7 match of the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup on Sunday, May 26th, 2024, at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

Isou started the match strong, playing well in the first 20 minutes of the first half. However, they were unable to maintain that momentum throughout the game.

Their weak defence allowed the Gurias to capitalise, creating an opportunity for hooker Jeremiah Dickson, who scored the opening try in the 26th minute. The Gurias dominated during the remaining minutes, taking the lead with a 10-0 scoreline at halftime.

The Isou-outfit needed to come back strong in the second half but right at the start, following the kickoff from the Gurias, front rower Ismael Tabo lost the ball from a kick-return. Gurias reserve forward Justin Andrew picked up the loose ball and scored the first try in the second half.

Isou also struggled with game discipline, leading to more ball handling errors. Their spine didn’t click, resulting in an unstructured game plan.

Their defensive structure faltered, allowing the Gurias forwards to make easy offloads and gain more grounds.

The PRK Gulf-outfit struggled in many aspects of the game, allowing the Gurias to dominate, making a strong comeback in the second half and finishing with a significant victory from  unanswered tries.

The Isou need to address several areas of improvements during their training week before round 8. Hopefully, they return stronger and better prepared to face the Moni Plus NCDC POM Vipers on Sunday, June 1st, at NFS.
