Hunters lose at home

The SP PNG Hunters were outdone by the Souths Logan Magpies with a 48-36 win during the round 12 match of the QRL Hostplus Cup showdown on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

The Magpies, backed by NRL-contracted players in the likes of Tevita Pangai Jnr, Blake Mozer, Fletcher Baker and Cody Black, used their first-grade experience and outclassed the Hunters on their turf.

This match kicked off with the Magpies scoring the first try after one minute into the game. A few minutes later, the Hunters prop, Valentine Richard, bulldozed his way to score next to the uprights. The Magpies responded with three more tries and a try from the Hunters, ending the first half with the Magpies taking a comfortable 34-10 lead.

The determined Hunters returned in the second half with vigor and scored five tries to catch the Magpies, but the visitors added three more tries, ending the game with 48-36 on the board.

The Hunters took the loss with a heavy heart but remained positive, as they gear up for their round 13 clash against the Western Clydesdales on Sunday, June 9th, at Toowoomba Sports Ground in Australia.
