Hekari registered first win in the OFC opener

The first game of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League this afternoon, saw the Hekari United FC defeated the Ifira Blackbird FC 2-0 in the regulation time at Freshwater Stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

Hekari and Blackbird have made several attempts to score in the first half, coupled with equal ball possession and field territory, but no team has managed to find the net.

Both sides rose to the occasion and delivered a highly entertaining contest in the first half and headed into the sheds, leaving the scores 0-0.

In the second half, the game still hangs in the balance for over 25 minutes. However, in the 58th minute, Hekari’s mid-fielder, Yagi Yasasa slotted a free kick outside of the penalty box and scored a brilliant goal to give his side a handy 1-0 lead.

The visitor’s goal did not deter the home side. The host nation threw everything they had in the tank against the high flying Hekari outfit.

With the momentum swinging on Hekari’s side, the red army capitalized on it and scored their second goal through Rex Naime and put the game beyond doubt.

Hekari will meet Tiga Sport on Thursday and AS Pirae on Sunday.
