Hekari edge Labasa to meet Auckland in decider

Updated: Apr 27

The Hekari United FC have booked their maiden Grand Final berth in the second edition of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Champions League, after pulling off a gutsy 2-0 victory over Labasa FC of Fiji in the extra time of their Semi-Final clash on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, at National Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

The intensity and arm wrestle between the two sides were felt in the first half. A couple chances came begging but both teams held their fort and defended their respective lines resolutely, leaving the half time score at nil all.

Second half was similar to the first half, as both teams fought for possession and tried to create goal-scoring opportunities. The intense battle continued until the end of the regulation time, ending the match with zero points.

In the extra time, Hekari made use of their chances and scored two goals to put the game beyond doubt, securing an evenly-fought 2-0 win over the determined Labasa outfit.

Meanwhile, in the second match of the Semi-Final showdown this afternoon, the Auckland United FC defeated the courageous Tafea FC in the extra time with a 2-1 win.

The stage is now set for the Hekari United FC to go head-to-head with the Auckland United FC in the 2024 OFC Women’s Champions League Grand Final on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, at National Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
