Gurias earn another win

Following their victory against the Lae Snax Tigers in round 4, the ENB Agmark Gurias demonstrated their resilience by securing a 19-12 win over the Kroton Hela Wigmen in round 5 of the Digicel-ExxonMobil Cup on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

With this win, the Gurias now have a total of 3 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, maintaining their position and sitting second on the ladder with 7 points.

The Gurias began their season with a strong 38-28 win against the reigning champions, the Enga Mioks in round 1.

However, they faced a setback in round 2 against the Dabaris, resulting in a draw. This inconsistency continued with a defeat to the Mount Hagen Eagles. Despite these challenges, they managed to defeat the Lae Snax Tigers with a 16-12 win in round 4.

Showcasing their winning spirit once again on Sunday's game, the Gurias scored 3 tries in the 13th, 62nd, and 76th minutes, with centre Dominic Anis, winger Chris Benjamin, and Johnson Simon, shining with their tries, respectively.

The game was evenly matched with equal ball possession, the attack and defence were intense. However, delivery was poor and both teams struggled with ball security. Gurias capitalised on a drop-ball and secured  the  76th minute winning try.

Gurias coach, Jessie Alunga, acknowledged the mistakes made by his team and expressed his commitment to working on them during the week.

The Gurias will face the Moni Plus NCDC POM Vipers on Saturday, May 19, 2024, at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
