First Day of NCD School League Finals end on a high



The National Capital District (NCD) School Rugby League Competition hosted its first Grand Finals for the North-East Schools on Friday, July 5th, 2024, at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.


Five Grand Finals were held from the different age divisions - ranging from U15 boys, U16 girls, U17 boys, U18 girls, and U19 boys.


The students rose to the occasion and delivered highly entertaining finals’ footy, making the fans go crazy and leaving them on the edge of their seats.


These were the results of the ten Grand Finalists within the Moresby North-East Electorate who competed in their respective age categories yesterday:


●      U15 Boys - Bomana PS 8, Iobuna Kouba PS 4;

●      U16 Girls - Iobuna Kouba PS 4, Morata PS 0;

●      U17 Boys - Koiari Park SS 6, St. Peters PS 4;

●      U18 Girls - North-East Academy 4, Laloki SS 4; and

●      U19 Boys - Laloki SS 6, De La Salle SS 4;


The President of NCD School Rugby League, Arnold Gende, was pleased with the results of the first day of finals and looks forward to completing the deciders for both the North-West and Moresby South Electorates on Saturday (July 6th) and Sunday (July 7th).


“Today’s performances by the ten finalists have been very good. I’ve seen a big difference compared to previous finals being hosted.The North-East schools have come of age,” President Gende observed.  


“The players have been well-disciplined, competing very strongly and physically. There’s one or two areas that they need to improve on but otherwise, for both boys and girls, they did very well.


“I’m happy that we’ve ended the first day of the finals successfully, and we look forward to concluding the competition on Saturday and Sunday.”
