Following the successful completion of the inaugural Erave Rugby League (ERL) competition last year, President Daniel Mere and his executives are preparing to resume the 2025 preseason this weekend (March 8th) at Kamare Oval, Erave Station.
Under the strong leadership of Director Emmanuel Eralia and President Daniel Mere, including their executives, the Erave Rugby League competition was registered and affiliated with the PNG Rugby Football League last year, successfully ending its inaugural season.
A total of 16 teams (8 A-Grade & 8 B-Grade) teams participated in last year’s inaugural ERL season, with the number of teams expected to increase this year. The Ambo Roosters were crowned the champions of the A-Grade division while the Junior T-Rocks claimed the B-Grade division.
To start the 2025 competition, president Mere traveled to Mount Hagen over the weekend to pay ERL’s K1,000 affiliation fee to the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL), granting the infant competition the green light to run its 2025 season.
Other registered and sanctioned rugby league competitions across the country also paid their affiliation fees by complying with the PNGRFL’s processes or requirements to host their respective competitions this year.
President Mere expressed satisfaction, emphasizing that he was able to pay the registration fee on time before the due date, which was last Friday (February 28th).
“I am very pleased that I have produced the requirements of PNGRFL and handed it on time,” he said.
“I’m very happy that my executive and I have worked towards the seeking of affiliation fee and we have paid on time.
“I am looking forward to working closely with PNGRFL to ensure that all players must be registered before we begin our season.”
Besides paying the affiliation fee, president Mere also presented ERL’s Annual General Meeting Report (AGMR) to one of the officers of PNGRFL, highlighting what they executed or implemented last year.
“The Annual General Meeting Report is the season report for the 2024 Erave Rugby League competition,” Mere stated.
“It includes the general overview report of the league by the president (myself), the financial report for the season by the treasurer, and names of the teams that will be participating in the 2025 season, which was approved by the committee during the meeting.
“This important report will pave the way for us towards the start of the 2025 Erave Rugby League competition.”
Mr. Mere mentioned that they were anticipating the preseason, which kicks off this weekend, giving a rundown of the preseason and the proper season as well.
“We will start our preseason this weekend while preparing the ERL documents and club registration forms,” he said.
“We are looking forward to starting the preseason and commencing the proper season in April or May, hoping to finish the competition on a high note.”
President Mere added that though there would be no sponsors to support the league this year, he and his executive would utilize whatever resources they have available to run the competition. He is appealing to the Erave elites and business houses to support the ERL competition this year.
