EPG Enga Mioks Fairytale Run Continues


Playing 5 of their previous 8 games at home, it had many rugby league fans skeptical of the EPG Enga Mioks current winning streak. Some considering it a home advantage providing them the necessary advantage to win their games. To prove their critics wrong, the EPG Enga Mioks travelled down to Lae City, with the Herculean task of beating the mighty Lae Biscuit sponsored Lae Snax Tigers in their very own “Tiger’s Den”, which they did with a 6-4 victory!


It was a modern-day clash of titans that could be described as “an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object”. The 4-time champions, Lae Snax Tigers hosted the inform EPG Enga Mioks at home in Lae City. With both teams sitting top of their Pool A ladder, this game was deemed the "match of the round". With so much hype and excitement leading into this game, it created an electric atmosphere at the Lae League Grounds, with fans anxious for kick off to commence.


The first 40 minutes saw a wave of possession fall to the home team, but the resilience of the EPG Enga Mioks defense allowed for only one unconverted try by Joshua Lau. With only a 4-point lead at the break, both teams had a big 40 minutes coming up. The intensity did not die out in the second stanza, as both teams hurled everything at each other, leaving nothing in the tank. It was only in the last 5 minutes the visitors crossed over for the equalizer, and a successful conversion saw the EPG Enga Mioks take the lead until the final hooter sounded.

With their victory over the Lae Snax Tigers, the EPG Enga Mioks now record an impressive 8 straight wins in the 2023 ExxonMobil Digicel Cup, as they sit comfortably on top of their Pool A ladder with 16 points. With a squad boosted with young raw talents scouted from various local leagues, such as Lae League and Gomis League in Mt. Hagen, the EPG Enga Mioks, have manufactured a squad that are being considered as premiership heavy-weights. Only time and form will tell how far the EPG Enga Mioks will go this season, but for now, their unstoppable run is leaving fans over-the-moon and critics speechless.


They will host the PRK Mendi Muruks again, at Aipus Oval in Enga Province for round 9.
